Business Rules (BR) has been one of the most essential topics discussed in S1000D community during several last years. Until recently they have been considered solely on the project level.

S1000D has recognized that a number of decisions related to its implementation are made not only on a project level but often also on an organizational level (eg national Ministries or Departments of Defense (MoD or DoD), international consortia as Civil Aviation Working Group (CAWG) etc). The structure and content of business rules between projects and various organizations can differ considerably. Therefore, the first steps towards business rules standardization for both project and organization levels have been made.

This presentation will address the importance of generation of high-quality business rules for a successful S1000D implementation on both project and organizational levels. It will present the BR concepts and constructs offered by S1000D and will give an insight into the current work and future plans of Implementation Guide and Business Rules Task Team (IG&BRTT) in respect to business rules.  And finally a number of recommendations for an efficient business rules production and implementation will be offered.
